If you've looked at our biographies, which are located elsewhere
in these web pages, you realize we both have extensive backgrounds
in photography, reaching back over 20 years. We're passionate
about photography and continue to devote major portions of our
lives to it.
The details of our separate and joint careers in photography may not be important
to you, but our interest in photography should be if you are considering
registering in a workshop or tour created by Summit Photographic
Workshops.
We explore the locations we use as workshop locations, so we
know the time of day and viewpoints we want to share with our
participants ahead of time. We keep the class size small, so we
can work with the group without shouting and so we can work with
each participant individually during every workshop. (You won't
ever find two dozen or more participants at one of our workshops,
something that other workshop programs sometimes do.) Helping
you to return home with at least a few images you're proud to
share is one of our goals during each workshop or tour. These
are requirements we established for ourselves over fifteen years
ago, when SPW began. We believe every workshop organization should
have similar goals.
We design workshops and tours for all photographic ability levels. Specialized workshops feature topics that extend participants' skills. If a participant were to complete a selection of our workshops, that person would have a broader understanding of how to visualize and create a photograph he/she would be proud of. We work with our participants to improve their skills, taking them from whatever level of photographic skill they possess to a higher level of competence and a more complete understanding of the options they have for producing a quality photographic image. Field sessions are an excellent time for the kind of one-on-one assistance each participant needs to advance in his/her photographic education.
Most of our workshops and tours are available for all camera
formats. As you might expect, we are continuing to explore the
world of photography and have become knowledgeable about digital
photography over the past few years. For example, you'll notice
that we offer a few classes devoted to Photoshop. These classes
are designed to introduce photographers to the wonders of the
digital darkroom and the pleasures of printing their own images.
Occasionally, a workshop such as a wildlife seminar may be inappropriate for view camera photographers.
Knowing you are bringing a view camera makes planning for your
style of photography easier for us. However, we make every reasonable
accommodation to insure that all levels of photographic expertise
and users of all camera formats are comfortable with the techniques
and locations we have selected.
Our years of experience in the field and our individualized instruction
allow you to practice the skills you need to advance photographically.
When you consider what Summit Photographic Workshops offers, we
believe you'll find some of the best values in photographic education
and most enjoyable times you've ever shared with fellow photographic
enthusiasts. We hope you'll agree, and we hope to see you soon
at an SPW workshop or tour.
