Allen and Barbara,
Although I am busy at work I haven't stopped thinking about the weekend and the class with Allen. It struck me how you guys seem to make what seems to be so difficult , so easy. I have always enjoyed your workshops and classes more than any of the others. I guess it is the simplicity of the way you present the information that makes it so enjoyable. I will never be a master, mostly because it isn't that important to me, I am a master at other things. But the ability to enjoy myself and share my experinces through photography makes my free time more enjoyable. Thanks for being there.

I have attended several of the workshops offered by SPW, from one day, intensive special-subject courses, to weekend and weeklong courses covering special subjects or special places. I always come home feeling like I've learned something. Barbara and her assistants (usually Allen) help me focus on areas in which I can improve, and since I've attended several courses, they know the information to which I've been exposed and help me remember how to apply these things to the photograph I'm trying to make. I have come to think of Barbara and Allen not only as photographers and teachers, but as friends.

I attended your class "The Perfect Transparency" in Monterey in January 1998. Since I took your class, I have noticed an increase in the quality of my pictures. One of my friends (a photographer) has also noticed the difference in the "quality of light" in my pictures. But really, I attribute this change to the information you provided during the class. I made a trip to Yosemite in February, during an El Niño storm, and I had two days of fresh snow and a very high success rate with my slides. I measure the success by the comments of others, the results of showing at a camera club and by my personal satisfaction. My buddy, Larry, who also attended the class, has commented that his pictures have improved, too. So, please give yourself and Allen a "pat on the back" for having helped me be more successful in my photography.

I just wanted to say what an OUTSTANDING composition class you taught!  It's really quite fortunate for us amateur photographers that you enjoy teaching because you do such an exceptional job of it!

Barbara, I think you should require taking your Editing Class along with the Color Zone System Class.  It has been 5 years (maybe longer) since I took your Editing Class. Yet I still had difficulty parting with slides because they are my memories. After taking the Zone System Class editing is so easy for me.  Now I can look at a slide and say, yes, that is white or that is green or that is adobe.  If it doesn't pass that standard, into the wastebasket it goes. It is amazing how many slides I have kept because I thought the exposure was "close enough". This new attitude is uplifting and freeing. Getting rid of clutter is good for me, but people who practice feng shui know that.

Barbara and Allen, I just got my film back from the Sierra wildflower class. My slides look FANTASTIC!!!!! Best stuff I've ever produced. The flowers look better on film than I had expected--many winning shots, and I'm very pleased with the results.

Barbara and Allen, you have such interesting people at your workshops! I enjoyed the wildflower workshop very much.

Barbara's workshops are valuable to me because she really knows her locations--knows what time to be at a specific spot for the perfect light. She is also able to be extremely helpful since she limits the size of her workshops to a workable group. But best of all, she is fun to be with.

In the fall of 1987 I took a wildlife workshop with Barbara, my first one. Ten years and many classes later, I look forward to the next one. It can be intimidating, being with different levels of photographers, especially more advanced ones, but Barbara puts you at ease and has a knack for knowing where you are with your photography and what direction to point you in next. Her classes in exposure can be a lot of work, but they give you the foundation you need to get the most out of your photography.

I first met Barbara at her Winter in Yosemite workshop in 1992. It was a chance to work with color in a scenic wonderland, and I loved it. Barbara was a teacher, mentor, and friend. Since then, I've traveled with her to Alaska and throughout California, and I always come home with great photographs from her workshops. She has been supportive of my work, generous with her time, and freely giving of everything she knows about photography. I'm a better person because of taking her classes. I'm studying the Color Zone System with her now, and it has really helped to give me confidence in my exposures.

After taking Barbara's outstanding weeklong course on the color zone system, my slide exposures improved tremendously. In addition, Barbara's teaching approach to color composition has resulted, for the first time, in my prints being accepted for gallery shows. I would highly recommend any of Barbara's courses.

Barbara is a superb teacher who not only conveys the necessary technical knowledge to her students but also instills a sense of artistry. I have gone on numerous trips with Barbara and will continue to do so in the future.
